Freeman Facial Polishing Charcoal + Black Sugar

Posted on Dec 17, 2018 in Beauty, Face

Freeman Facial Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Gel Mask + Scrub is one of the mask from Freeman, well-known brand in Malaysia. Before this, I also wrote a review about Freeman mask too ( link in bottom of the post, kindly check it out). I randomly purchased this one at Guardian store without reading any reviews of the product from beauty bloggers.

For your information, at the moment I wrote this post, I’ve been using this product twice a week for four months now, and almost done with it, heck maybe I’ll buy another mask + scrub from Freeman again (but I don’t know which one to choose, there’s a lot of them!) or maybe I’ll use chemical exfoliator. I’m ready to give you my assumption. So let’s see if it lived up to the hype!

Freeman Facial Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Gel Mask + Scrub RM24.90 for 175ml.

First of all, when I bought this mask plus scrub, I can’t denies the happy feeling like ‘this time is gel mask plus scrub, let’s give it a try, my dear face’. At the same time, I admit that the thought of what might happen scared me, thinking about whether active charcoal will give effect on my skin because I never used any skincare products which includes active charcoal in their products.

The purpose of the product is like it said on the tube :

Polution…debris…it’s a wonder skin can breathe! This unique mask and scrub works double time to detox skin. First, naturally purifying Activated Charcoal helps absorb oil and impurities without over-drying. The, Black Sugar helps exfoliate away dulling skin cells for softness and clarity. Perfect for all skin types.

The packaging is sooo great. This charcoal and black sugar mask and scrub comes in dark grey tube (it’s not so black one as I see). However, I still interested in buying and trying it out. Dark color really good at making me buying them. Why? Because I love dark color more than the light one. Credit to the tube packaging. Consequently I honestly passionate about tube packaging whether it moisturizers or clay masks or scrubs. Easy to keep, to-go  and does not require so much space.

Texture and consistency : By looking at the photos above, you can see that this product looks more like facial scrub than mask although it said gel mask and scrub. It’s thick, but not so thick. Once I started to applying it on my face, after few seconds, it will be thinner absolutely because of the black sugar. Not to forget to mention about the warming sensation at the time you put it on your face. I didn’t read the instructions carefully, and I just put it on my dry face like I used Apple Cider Vinegar Clay Mask + Scrub and there we go. I felt like my face burning up, and then as quickly as possible rinse it with water. For the second time, I have to make sure to damp my face first before applying it to reduce the warming sensation.

Ease of use and removal : Because it is a gel mask plus sugar, I found that it quite hard to apply on my face. It simply does not spread evenly like clay mask, and I have to use quite a lot of them because of the reason. Meanwhile, after waiting like five minutes, when it comes to the scrubbing my face and rinse, I found out that it is very easy as well, because the black sugar start to dissolved by the time  I finished with the exfoliation. For your information, there’s no bubbles like Apple Cider Vinegar when I washed out my face after scrubbing.

Exfoliation : As it mention as a gel mask plus scrub, of course I need to say something about the exfoliation. First, when I scrubbed my face, there’s no greasy, sticky or oil feeling at all. In fact, my skin feels clean, smooth and fresh.

Fragrance : As I thought, this product smells sugary-sweet which is not too strong and not too light, also with some herbal smell (check on ingredients list above). I love those herbs smell and it’s not bothering me a bit during application. Fragrance in the two last ingredients list, if you can’t stand with fragrance or your skin sensitive to it, this mask and scrub is not for you.

Will not repuchase it because of I can’t stand with the warming sensation although I love how it leaving my skin clean & smooth.

To sum up, this Charcoal + Black Sugar Gel Mask + Scrub is one of the best drugstore physical exfoliators I’ve tested in quite some time. I haven’t had any breakouts due to this product in the few months that I’ve been using it which is a good thing,

  1. I felt some sort of burning sensation on my skin when I first applied this! I don’t know if it’s normal or not. I don’t use it anymore. Ever!

Btw, it’s weird that I don’t receive your updates on my reading list anymore. I think you’ve stopped blogging for a while! Thank god I clicked your profile through someone else’s blog and it directed me to here. Now, how can I receive updates from you again? Do you have Bloglovin? xx
