A Flat White, A Busy Road, and A Book

Some days carry a rhythm of their own, unexpected turns, a mix of small comforts, and the usual chaos outside. Today felt like one of those days.

I ordered a hot flat white from Zus Coffee, and the warmth in my hands felt like an anchor. There’s something about the simplicity of a flat white – no fuss, no sugar, just a balance of smooth milk and coffee. It’s the kind of drink that doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. The first sip reminded me why I always find myself coming back to it.

The weather outside, though, had its own mood swings. One moment the sun was bright and harsh, almost too much, and the next, clouds rolled in and everything dimmed. That sudden change between heat and shade always feels like a reminder that life doesn’t stay steady for long.

While sipping slowly, I opened Penulis Jalanan by Teme Abdullah. His words have a way of making me pause and think, even in the middle of a noisy café or busy street. It’s not just about the story, but the reflections tucked between paragraphs. Reading it felt like finding a quiet corner even when the world outside kept rushing.

And rush it did. The road nearby was alive with endless honks, the blur of cars, and impatient motorcycles weaving their way through. The traffic lights seemed unusually long today – red that stretched further than expected, green that disappeared too quickly. I watched as people leaned forward on their bikes, drivers tapping the steering wheel, and pedestrians shifting their weight from one foot to another. Everyone waiting, everyone moving, but all caught in that cycle of stop and go.

Strangely, it all tied together – the comfort of coffee, the unpredictability of weather, the patience tested by traffic, and the quiet wisdom from a book. Small fragments of life that don’t seem related at first, but in the moment, they connected.

I finished the last sip of my flat white just as the clouds broke again, sunlight spilling across the street. The traffic light turned green, and everything moved forward. Maybe that’s all we need sometimes – a little pause, a little reflection, and then the push to keep going.

Until next time.
